It's been a rough 24 hours for Katy Perry, and now an old interview clip isn't exactly helping matters.
A resurfaced video of Anna Kendrick recounting a bizarre physical interaction with Perry on a late-night talk show has gone viral - and its timing could hardly be worse.
It comes after the singer was accused of sexual assault by actress Ruby Rose in a series of explosive posts on Threads over the weekend.
The clip comes from a 2014 appearance on Conan, where Kendrick told host Conan O'Brien about a wild night at the Grammy Awards and a very hands-on encounter with Perry.
"Katy Perry finger-banged my cleavage," Kendrick told a stunned O'Brien.
"It was a weird night. She's very mature!"
The Pitch Perfect star had been wearing a slightly revealing dress to the ceremony and joked that she'd been 'kind of asking for it' with the outfit she'd chosen.
"If nobody had done it, I would've been a little sad," she added.
When O'Brien asked if that kind of behavior was typical for the pop star, Kendrick didn't hesitate: "I have met her before, and she's aggressive. I like it."
The audience laughed, O'Brien riffed on it, and at the time, nobody batted an eyelid.
It was one of those classic late-night anecdotes that gets a few laughs and is promptly forgotten about.
That is, until now.
The resurfacing of Kendrick's interview is directly linked to the bombshell allegations made by Ruby Rose against Perry.
Rose, who starred in Orange is the New Black and Batwoman, accused Perry of sexually assaulting her at a nightclub in Melbourne when Rose was in her early 20s.
She described the alleged incident in graphic detail on Threads, saying it had taken her 'almost 2 decades' to speak about it publicly.
The actress also claimed she had previously told the story but reframed it as a 'funny little drunk story' because she didn't know how else to process what had happened.
Rose added that she stayed silent in part because Perry later helped her obtain a US visa.
In the wake of those allegations, social media users have been trawling through old interviews and footage involving Perry - and Kendrick's 2014 Conan appearance was quickly flagged and shared widely.
As is always the case when old celebrity clips resurface during a controversy, the response has been mixed.
Some users have pointed out that Kendrick's anecdote was told as a joke and clearly wasn't presented as a complaint - she seemed genuinely amused by the whole thing.
Others have argued that the story takes on a different tone when viewed alongside Rose's far more serious allegations, suggesting a pattern of Perry overstepping physical boundaries.
There are also plenty of people urging caution, noting that a funny talk show story from 2014 and an allegation of sexual assault are two very different things.
It's worth noting that Kendrick herself has not commented on the resurfacing of the clip or weighed in on the current allegations against Perry.
As of writing, Perry has not publicly addressed the allegations from Rose, nor has she commented on the Kendrick clip doing the rounds.
Perry was at Coachella over the weekend with her partner, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and had been making headlines for her reaction to Justin Bieber's stripped-back set at the festival - which is actually where Rose first posted her allegations, commenting beneath a post about Perry's Coachella comments.
Rose has since stated that she intends to go to the police with her claims, though she acknowledged they may fall outside the statute of limitations.
It remains to be seen whether Perry will break her silence - but one thing's for certain: the internet is now combing through every past interview and public appearance she's ever made.
Whether that's fair or not is another matter entirely.
