Tragic 911 call reveals harrowing two-word comment as Martin Short's daughter is found dead aged 42
The entertainment world is in mourning following the devastating news that Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, has died at the age of 42.
Details surrounding the tragedy have now emerged, including audio from the 911 call made on the day of her passing.
911 Call Reveals Tragic ‘Self-Inflicted’ Detail
According to reports, a dispatcher from the Los Angeles Fire Department could be heard relaying a heartbreaking update to first responders.
In the call, the dispatcher described the nature of Katherine’s wound as “self-inflicted”.
The dispatcher also reportedly stated that the individual who called emergency services had been “with the patient and unable to enter the bedroom” of the Hollywood, California home, the Daily Mail reports.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to the publication that crews responded to a call at the address at approximately 6:41PM.
However, they declined to identify the individual involved due to privacy concerns.
Martin Short’s Representatives Confirm Death In Emotional Statement
Katherine’s passing was later confirmed by representatives for her father, comedy legend Martin Short.
In a statement, they said: "It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time.
"Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world."
Katherine Short’s Life And Career
Katherine was a licensed clinical social worker and held a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.
She was last seen publicly alongside her father, 75, during celebrations for her 40th birthday in 2023. The event took place at the Grand Master Recorders in Hollywood and was attended by Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn, Catherine O'Hara, Bo Welch and Joni Mitchell.
Martin shared Katherine with his late wife, Nancy Dolman. The couple had adopted Katherine and her two brothers, Oliver and Henry.
Nancy Dolman died in 2010 following a battle with ovarian cancer. Martin and Nancy had been married for 30 years at the time of her death.
Martin Short On Grief And Loss
Over the years, Martin has spoken candidly about the impact of losing his wife. He has admitted that he still talks to Nancy and continues to feel her presence around him.
In an interview with AARP magazine, he reflected on how tragedy reshaped his outlook on life, saying: "With real tragedy, you become a little more daring. It's the yin to the yang: the positive part of life's dark side."
In his 2014 memoir, he described Nancy’s death as "by far the most awful thing I've been through".
