Delivery woman and grandmother of 10, Sharon Simmons, was grilled by Donald Trump about her views on trans athletes while delivering burgers to the White House.
As she dropped off McDonald’s cheeseburgers and fries for West Wing staff the “DoorDash Grandma” brushed off the hot-topic question from the President.
“Do you think that men should play in women’s sports?” Trump asked.
Simmons smoothly swerved the question, saying: “I really don’t have an opinion on that.”
However the President pressed on, persisting with: “You don’t? I’ll bet you do.”
In an attempt to steer the conversation to the less controversial matter in hand Simmons simply replied with: “No, I’m here about no tax on tips.”
The purpose of the President answering the door to a delivery while the cameras were rolling was not to discuss trans issues but to promote the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which he signed into law last year.
The 2025 bill allows workers to deduct up to $25,000 of tips from their income taxes each year between 2025 and 2028.
Americans with annual incomes under $150,000 are eligible but it does not exempt them from payroll taxes.
Simmons, from Arkansas, was selected to deliver the DoorDash to the White House because she has reportedly saved over $11,000 through the bill’s provisions on tips.
She told the president and press that she began working for the delivery giant in 2022 after blitzing through her life’s savings to pay for her husband’s cancer treatment.
As she prepared to leave the Oval Office porch a reporter asked Simmons whether Trump is a good tipper, and he swiftly responded “wait” as he reached into his pocket and handed over a $100 bill.
The DoorDash Grandma turned to the reporter and replied: “Yes, very”, to the question.
Trump then asked the grandmother: “The reason for this is the fact that I heard you picked up an extra $11,000 … because the tax bill was so big, the refund was the biggest you’ve ever had. Is that correct?”
“It definitely was,” Simmons answered.
“Yeah, I saved over $11,000 … It was very surprising.”
Instead of dashing off, Simmons stayed by Trump’s side while he gave an update to the media on the collapsed peace talks with Iran and efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump was also asked about an AI-generated image he posted and deleted from Truth Social that depicted him as Jesus Christ, though he claimed he believed it showed him as a doctor.
