Poll reveals how popular Melania Trump is compared to other First Ladies
A recent poll has revealed exactly what the US public really thinks of First Lady Melania Trump in comparison with other women who have held her position.
That pits the current FLOTUS against the likes of Michelle Obama and Jackie O, so there’s some competition in the field.
How popular are Melania and Donald Trump?
Melania Trump is an interesting character for sure, but how much does the public actually like her?
If you went off the success of her recent documentary film, you’d have to say not that much, although the facts and figures on that vary massively.
As for her husband, again he is - and this is a gigantic understatement - somewhat of a divisive figure.
People either love him, and boy do they love him, or they absolutely detest him more than anyone on the planet.
So, it’s lucky that we have the polls to work with.
What we know ahead of time is that Melania usually leads a private life, or at least as private as one can live when married to the most recognizable man on the planet.
While the polls haven’t exactly been kind to The Donald in recent times, a survey by pollsters YouGov has ranked Melania among her peers in the role.
What do the results tell us about Melania and other First Ladies?
According to this survey, Melania has an approval rating of -16, that’s lower than her predecessor in the role, Jill Biden, who had a -9 approval rating.
However, Melania isn’t the bottom of the list.
Hilary Clinton - who herself fancied a tilt at the Presidency - polls at -17, but basically no-one has a positive rating so far.
There are First Ladies who do poll positively with the public, though. They come from both sides of the political spectrum, too.
Nancy Reagan is at +25, whereas Rosalynn Carter is +32.
Lady Bird Johnson (+23) and Barbara Bush (+21) are also well-liked.
The most recent is Michelle Obama, who has a +21 rating, and Laura Bush is at +19.
However, the best scores by far - you’ve guessed it - are for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who has a whopping +56 approval rating.
The poll, which was of 2,000 adults, also found that Melania quite predictably polled higher with Republicans than Democrats.
The polling company stated: "A random sample (stratified by gender, age, race, education, geographic region, and voter registration) was selected from the 2019 American Community Survey.
“The sample was weighted according to gender, age, race, education, 2024 presidential vote, 2020 election turnout and presidential vote, baseline party identification, and current voter registration status."
