Rules explained as Tommy Fury vs Eddie Hall fight branded 'farce' due to huge 130lb weight difference
Tommy Fury and Eddie Hall are set to face off in a bizarre boxing match that has been labelled by some as a farce, but will Beauty or The Beast win?
The rules of engagement aren’t quite like any other boxing match, but - then again - this isn’t just any other boxing match.
Tommy Fury vs Eddie Hall is a strange match-up
Celebrity boxing is a massive industry these days, with YouTubers and other stars getting involved.
Of course, the biggest name in the game is Jake Paul, who has fought boxing legends like Anthony Joshua - which didn’t end well - and Mike Tyson, but he also tackled stars of the YouTube world like KSI.
However, one ‘real’ boxer that he fought - and lost to - was Tommy Fury.
Tommy, the star of the UK version of Love Island and brother of former world champ Tyson, has had a pretty modest boxing career, although he hasn’t lost, he hasn’t really fought anyone top of the tree either.
He did beat Jake Paul though, so there is clearly interest in his fighting career.
That was a big fight, this one is even bigger - just not like that.
Now, he’s taking on the World’s Strongest Man, the man they call ‘The Beast’ - Eddie Hall.
The British strongman is absolutely huge.
After all, Tommy Fury isn’t a small guy, but he’s still giving up 130lbs to Hall.
So, when the two fight in Manchester on June 13th, it will be a real clash of the titans, and they’ve had to mould the rules of the bout to match that.
That's why some have described it as farcical.
Rules revealed for Tommy Fury vs Eddie Hall - Beauty vs The Beast
Misfits Boxing, the controversial company behind the fight, are set to classify it as a crossover bout, and many have questioned how on earth it will even take place.
Thankfully, Hall told talkSPORT some of the rules.
He said: "The fight will be with 12oz gloves and will be six, two-minute rounds.
"I will weigh in at whatever weight I am now to be honest. As long as I'm fit and in shape.
"It will probably be around the 150kg mark, there is no weight limit.
"With my diet, I've been a carnivore for a while now, so will be sticking to meat, eggs and dairy."
Hall will back himself then, if he’s allowed to weigh whatever he likes.
Fury will be backing his in-ring nous to get him over the line, but the shorter format will also suit Hall, who could presumably tire quicker over the longer distance.
He’ll have the knockout power edge, that’s for sure.
Hall has only fought once before, getting dropped and then stopped against The Mountain - Thor Bjornsson - in 2022.
He explained that he won’t be taking anything for granted, and will be training for a proper fight against proper fighters.
"I've gone from one session a week to four sessions a week so it's been busy.
"I've sparred Johnny Fisher last week, and I'm trying to get sparring in that is tougher than Tommy Fury."
Is Tommy Fury’s unbeaten professional record at stake?
Well, he’s naturally confident, given that he’s the professional boxer here.
He doesn’t think that the size will matter all that much when the bell rings.
"I don't really pay too much attention on weight," he told ESPN.
"It's about performance in the ring, in training. We go by that.
"I think it's just about how I perform. It's not my job to be big and strong in this fight."
This fight will not count towards the fighters’ professional records, meaning Fury will remain unbeaten regardless.
The fight actually came about because of a dispute between Hall and Fury’s father John, and Hall actually tried to get an MMA bout with Tyson before agreeing to fight the younger Fury brother.
Hall explained: "I had some untoward words with John.
“I wanted a fight with Tyson Fury secretly in an MMA match,
"That somehow led to John getting very irritated with me.
“A few heated words on social media ... and then he thought he's going to send his youngest son out to defend the Fury name.”
Whether he can do that or not, we’ll have to wait to find out.
