Timothée Chalamet reveals disgusting prank Matthew McConaughey played on him during Interstellar filming
Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey have been sharing stories from their long-ago work together on Interstellar, and one anecdote in particular has gone viral for how absurd - and gross - it was.
In a recent town hall conversation hosted by Variety and CNN, the Marty Supreme star opened up about his early days in Hollywood and the strange ways seasoned actors sometimes mark big moments on set.
While the discussion ranged from craft to friendship, Chalamet didn’t hold back when recalling one unforgettable prank that McConaughey pulled on the final day of filming the 2014 Christopher Nolan sci-fi epic.
The story has since sparked reactions across social media as fans and critics alike debate whether it was hilarious camaraderie or a crossing of personal boundaries.

Chalamet, now 30 and a multi-Oscar-nominated actor, was just 18 when he played the young son of McConaughey’s character Cooper on Interstellar.
The pair reunited this month to talk about their shared experience working with Nolan, and Chalamet spoke warmly about how that early role shaped his career trajectory, even though it was a relatively small part at the time.
The conversation was full of nostalgic laughs about Nolan’s playful antics, like giving Chalamet a noogie backstage at a screening earlier this year, a moment Chalamet said reminded him of feeling '17 again.'
The disgusting prank revealed
But the moment that’s dominating headlines came when Chalamet recounted what happened in his Interstellar trailer on the very last day of filming: he discovered a huge turd left in his toilet, allegedly by McConaughey.
“I felt so disrespected,” Chalamet said of his reaction, jokingly lamenting that he wasn’t even the star of the movie, and yet someone had taken the time to leave such a 'souvenir.'
He walked around the crew asking who was responsible, and when they all denied it, he went to Nolan, only for the director to point at McConaughey, who wore a devilish grin.
According to McConaughey’s explanation at the time: “In Texas, it’s a coming of age, baby.”
The story was shared with Variety during the same event where they discussed Marty Supreme, Chalamet’s career arc, and how the older actor offered mentorship and warmth early in his life.
That context has made the prank tale less about animosity and more about the offbeat way some movie sets bond over shared absurdity.
Despite the stunt, Chalamet’s path since Interstellar has been meteoric — he’s now among Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors, with roles in Dune and Marty Supreme garnering significant awards attention.
