Ne-Yo has opened up about his unconventional love life, revealing why, despite being in a polyamorous relationship with three women, they are “not allowed to date other men.”
The 46-year-old singer has turned his back on typical monogamous relationships, and has instead chosen to build what he describes as “one relationship” with his girlfriends Arielle Hill, Cristina and Moneii following his split from ex-wife Crystal Renay in 2023.
Speaking to Sherri Shepherd on her talk show, Sherri, he reflected on how his divorce shaped this new, controversial approach. “So after my very public, very ugly divorce, I made the decision that I was never going to tell another lie to a woman ever again in life,” he said. The split came after Renay, who shares three children with him, filed for divorce when he fathered a child with another woman during their marriage.
Taking accountability for his indiscretion, he admitted: “I own the thing that I did in that marriage to mess it up. I own it completely. And I decided I didn’t want to be the reason that anybody ever felt like that ever again.”
From there, he explained how he introduced the idea of a polyamorous setup to one of his current partners first. “I basically went to her and said, ‘Listen, you know I rock with you. You know I love you, but I have to be honest with you. It’s not just you. I would love for you to meet these other women, and if we can figure out a way to do something together, cool. If not, that’s cool, too,’” he recalled, noting that all three women ultimately chose to “stick around.”
For Ne-Yo, the dynamic isn’t about juggling separate romances. As he put it: “The main understanding is I’m not in three relationships. I’m in one relationship with three people.”
He also divulged how he approaches things like Valentine’s Day, avoiding generic gestures and platitudes and preferring to tailor presents to each woman’s personality. When Shepherd joked that this “seems like more work,” he responded: “I’ve never been afraid of hard work. Never ever.”
The relationship previously included a fourth partner, dancer Brionna Williams, who appears to have stepped away, leaving the group as three.
However, the most talked-about aspect of his setup is exclusivity. When asked whether his partners are free to see other men, Ne-Yo was clear: “No. They gave me their exclusivity, meaning, if you gave it to me, it’s mine and that’s that.”
He added that while he doesn’t see himself as controlling, he does expect commitment within the arrangement: “I deal in partnership as opposed to ownership. I don’t want to own you, I don’t want to possess you — I want to partner in this, and we can partner and work it out that way. But if the exclusivity is mine, it’s mine, damn it. You ain’t giving it to nobody. You gave it to me, it’s mine.”
The father of seven has also been open about his personal life with his children, previously saying in 2025: “I’m not lying to anybody, not even my children.”
