Fans have flooded social media with backlash against Katy Perry after actress Ruby Rose publicly accused her of sexual assault.
The allegations surfaced in a series of posts, sparking heated reactions online as users shared their thoughts in very blunt terms. Some posts quickly went viral, with many questioning why the claims were not being widely discussed.
One person wrote: “I fucking Hate katy Perry as a person.”
Another penned a lengthier statement: “…Ruby Rose responded to a complex music post on Katy Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella set by saying that Katy Perry sexually assaulted her??? and goes on to say she kept it a secret because Katy helped secure her US visa?? And I don’t see anyone talking about this!!!????”
In posts shared on Threads, Ruby Rose alleged that the incident took place at a Melbourne nightclub when she was in her twenties.
“Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne,” she wrote in response to publisher Complex Music sharing a quote from Perry about Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance.
“Who gives a shit what she thinks,” she added.
She went on to describe the alleged incident in further detail, writing: “She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friends lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomitted on her."
Rose said it took years before she felt able to speak publicly about the alleged experience.
“Before I open up about something incredibly raw and traumatic, I tell myself ‘it’s ok, you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer,’” she wrote in one response to a fan who offered support. “But then I see this post and tears consume me, in a good way. Thank you.”
“I’m now 40,” she wrote. “It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.”
She also said it was “harder” to speak up against woman-on-woman violence.
Rose claimed that Perry later agreed to help her secure a visa for the United States following the alleged incident. She added that she is “not interested in filing a report” but would welcome legal action if Perry chose to pursue it.
As of now, Katy Perry has not publicly responded to the allegations.
